Some words about the sheer amout of addicting television nowadays, inspired by crysenia's meme reply:

So, I had to create an intricate Excel spreadsheet on my desktop. It contains each TV show that I watch, when they air here in Tucson, and the list of each episode's air date, title, and episode number, to assist with web searches.
I had originally intended on forcing myself to excercise by using the TV in the fitness center, since we don't currently have a TV. I tried that; unfortunately, the fitness center is packed with people during prime time, none of whom want the TV on. Even if they did, there's one guy who *insists* on using the treadmill in the back, which flashes a warning "Needs Service: Clean Bearings" every time you turn it on. The thing squeals so loud, that even if I'm directly in front of the TV, and it's at full volume, I can't hear it. I don't quite know why his ears don't bleed when he uses it.
My new plan involves downloading the episodes from Usenet. The brilliance of this is that I actually get the episodes before they air on TV here, since you East Coasters get to see them two whole hours earlier than we Arizonans. The good folks at vtv and eztv are in some sort of maniacal race to be the first to post the AVIs on usenet...I don't really understand why, but I enjoy the fact that I can usually grab a file around 1/2 hour after the episode finishes on the East Coast. From there, my plan is to bring my laptop and a set of headphones to the fitness center around midnight, where i can relax and watch my episode in peace, from one of the quiet, well-maintained treadmills or bikes.

So, some whaling protestors got lost in an inflatable while they were trying to disrupt operations of a whaling ship...the protesting group had to ask the whaling fleet for help :)

Fortunately, the two men were found, by the whaling fleet. I have to admit, as a mariner, this is pretty cool stuff...honor still holds on the sea; you always help on a man overboard/lost boat, even when you're searching for a couple of lost pirates, when they were trying to commit piracy on you.

So, Stony Brook's Marine Science Dept. sent me my "unofficial" notice of acceptance today, along with an offer of a full tuition anf fee waiver, $20,500/year in stipends, and full health benefits. I know, it's Stony Brook, and I've *already* been here forever, but it's an acceptance to a PhD program, which means that at the very least, I'm definitely going to grad school. It's also a pretty hefty sum of money for a first-year grad student, which is quite alluring. I'd also be working with my current research advisor, which means that my current research project could probably become my thesis topic, since the current research plans can easily take 5 years to complete, and it's a fairly interesting topic. Needless to say, I'm psyched, relieved, and very happy about the acceptance, whether or not I end up in this particular program. It means that no matter what, I'm going to grad school, and an acceptance with full support from the 3rd best marine science program in the country isn't too shabby.

Constitutiony-bits

Well, I just want to apologize to Bevy and Garrett if I offended them tonight with the 4m constitution thingy, as I noticed some hurt faces and Bevy's LJ post. Like I said, I was not trying to point fingers, and I meant it...I just didn't feel like getting in to the sordid details of the history of the lost Constitution, much of which occurred before they were even 4mites. It's just lost in the web of time, and it needs updating anyhow, so I proposed a new one tonight. If you wanna read the whole mess from my perspective, feel free.

Sorry if I didn't make it clearer at the meeting...I had no problem with the way the constitution was handed in last year, hell I didn't even know about the whole "Jeremy never handed one in" thing.
What I was mainly sad about was that I worked damn hard years ago with the Sysadmin bit (what a sucktastic time...I was Sec, Gay Jay, was Librarian...Rob was President, and to top it all off I was Gay Jay's roomie). Most of it had to do with the ridiculous amount of fighting between them over admin access and control to the library comp. Drew complained about the problems with the library comp today, which brought it all back in a flood. I thought it was clarified in the Constitution.
The problem is, the only copy of the Constitution that we can get at is the one on the website (a la 1999). USG buried the copy that was handed in last year. At some point during the many, many overhauls to the website by about 8 different computer guys (Fuzzy, Chirs Marcoe, Vijay, Rob, CS Dave, CS Joe, Garrett, etc etc) or during the transfer of files from server to server when Skippy relocated the machine the 4m site is actually hosted on, the file must have gotten deleted. The only other copy was on the library computer hard drives, one of which ate itself, and the other of which was given to the FBI after the Neo incident.
Needless to say, during my short but ferocious reign as Polity Treasurer, I actually headed up the committee to review Constitutions. I let Cubbi know what was coming down the pipe, and she changed the 4m Constituion to go along with that. Those actual amendments were originally drafted by Mikya and I, and then there was a committee of about 5 people who hashed it out, and we explained it to everyone in a quite lengthy meeting. Then when the gaming club had officer problems, a second amendment was made, whereby the "2 officers" thing was changed to a majority of the E-board. Luckily, first round of the Cubbi amendments were not lost, since the bulk of the current Regatta constitution was literally cut-and-pasted from that version of the 4m Constitution when Cubbi was webmaster for the Regatta, and the Regatta constituion needed overhauling.
Anyway, after hearing Drew's complaints today, I went to the AMS lab on a lark and just decided to type up the Constitution as best as I can remember it. Pretty much I just cut and pasted the Regatta constitution (a la Cubbi amendments round 1), changed the "2 officer" part, and added back in Sysadmin as best as I could remember. I know the Sysadmin/Librarian part seems bitchy, but it's actually less severe than the original way it read, which included clauses forbidding the Sysadmin to install any programs without a majority vote in a general meeting. Surely one can understand how ridiculous it must seem to have a Sysadmin who's not allowed to install AIM on the machines because we haven't voted to yet. At the time and in the context of the incident, that's what it took to restore the rift that the forum had experienced. This version is slightly more gentle, but preserves some of the edge, and trust me when I say it needs it. The edge is there to clearly define boundaries, and prevent personal conflicts erupting between several good-hearted 4m officers who are just trying to do their jobs, like we saw tonight.

Despite the fact that all the other media outlets are saying Bush 254, Kerry 252, with the rest up for grabs, good old Fox News has stated that it's Bush 269, Kerry 242, with the rest undecided. I love media politics.

Also, I'd be less worried about the presidential race and more worried about the Senate seats the republicans picked up...if they can swing a few conservative Dems, they're close to being able to push amendments through. Scary. (g'bye stem cells and gay marriage)

The need for random fun

So, having had both of my gaming groups fall apart at the same time (beware gaming in 2 different games with all the same people), I *really* need a new gaming group/game.
Hell, I'm even considering *running* a game.
If anyone else wants to get together and game, lemme know. My favorite time is Friday nights, although I suppose Saturday daytime is good, too.
I enjoy playing and/or running the following systems, although I am not adverse to learning a new one:
-Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Freak Legion, Mind's Eye Theatre
-AD&D 1st, 2nd
-D20 System: D&D 3rd, The End, Call of Cthulhu
-All Flesh Must Be Eaten

On other fronts, I am quite pleased with myself. I've taken the Roth Pond Regatta to an exciting new level, with huge silver perpetual trophies, on-line registration for participants and volunteers, and planned goodnesses such as laptops, tables and chairs, and 2-way radios to facilitate smooth event-runningness.

With NASCAR back on, I am glad to report that cinnibar and I have increased hang-outage time and the accompanying chainmaille making, which is a goodness.

School is still going really well; I'm keeping on top of assignments, and watching the economy get slightly better, which all helps in the long run.

Well, such is life.
