| Some people just pick the wrong days... |

So I got an email from the 15 Association this evening. Apparently they've got a new website for the membership, and anyone who's ever attended a 15 Association event.
They picked the wrong day to get in my sights. I had a really craptacular day at work. So I get this email...
To: John Reddy <skip@reddywhip.org> Subject: Welcome to the new 15 Association website! From: The 15 Webmaster <webmaster@the15association.org> Date: Tue, 08 Jul 2008 16:30:34 -0700
Welcome John Patrick Reddy!
The 15 Association has moved to a new website, where you can check for the latest news and information about The 15 Association, as well as update your own contact information.
It's easy to use. Just go to
http://www.the15association.org
Your username is jreddy Your password is leather3650
( .... The rest of the email )
So I go and log in and find all my personal information that they had on me. Address, phone number, other misc information about me. Okay then. So I look for the "remove me" or "delete my profile" button. None. Well, then. I went in to my profile and either deleted every field of note or changed it to You need a "remove me" or "remove my profile" button.
I then went and found the feedback form and submitted the following:
( A few bits of constructive criticism (really! Wasn't being snarky!) )
Rather shortly afterward after sending that feedback, I got the following:
From: Andrew Coile <andrew@coile.com> To: John Reddy <skip@reddywhip.org> Subject: Re: Message for The 15 Webmaster Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2008 17:07:20 -0700 John,
Thanks for your suggestions.
You can mark your profile as Private, but you can't remove it from the database. If you attended a 15 event, we're going to keep the record of that on file, for legal reasons. You are free to indicate that you don't want to receive either email or paper mailings, in which case you won't.
( more content... )
I must admit I wasn't expecting people to vandalize their member record....the site was supposed to make it easier for people to update their information. I've restored your record (we DO keep an audit trail), and changed the password so you won't be able to do so again.
( more content... )
I received this response and thought it over for a little while. Then sent back this reply:
( My response (okay, quite snarky now) )
The website is maintained in PHP, as is obvious from the main page being "http://www.the15association.org/content/index.php" and that the software they're using is from "http://www.joomla.org/", as noted at the bottom of that page. Hopefully they'll remember to keep on top of security announcements for PHP and for this software package. Oh, and to boot, authentication is unencrypted, and passwords are stored in clear text in their database.
Oh, while I was writing this post, I got a response from him:
( A response summarized by the statement... )if you had simply asked politely, instead of being an asshole, I would have deleted your record. ( followed by more content )
He also noted that my Recon profile cites Long Island as my address. Yes, I've moved twice since the information they had on my profile. So it's out of date. So, my last volley? Well, since I'm an asshole...

Andrew,
You told me in your initial message: "you can't remove it from the database"... "for legal reasons". Thank you for providing more content for my blog.

Yay,
my bro got himself a new loverly job. He just started and he seems to like it. Good for him. which brings me to the "Crap"
Since now there is no one to cover day shifts at work, it looks like I won't make it to pennsic unless the manager agrees to some fancy schmantzy wrangling with the shifts (the likely hood of which is about 1 in a millon). Sux to be me I guess. I'll have to see what I can work out. |

| Stuff for sale. |

When my office is finally done, I plan on posting a few things here for sale. I pulled out one of the very few original pieces that I personally hand framed back in 2005.
The glass is UV glass, which is not cheap. The mattes were cut (2), paper backed, and wired.
There's some paper slightly torn on the back, due to an art show I had it at not allowing glass. I had to tape plastic over it, which did not effect the backing, as it's very solid.

( Close ups of the inked version. )
In the frame is the inked version and the painted gallery cel. If you are interested, please leave a reply here with an email address. |

Obama leading McCain for non-pet owners
This is political polling gone to far. And for the record I think it is very responsible of Obama to not have a pet considering how much time he is spending at home these days. |

http://community.livejournal.com/pl_commonwealth/ is for those interested in Eastern Europe, specifically for anyone interested in promoting increased historical awareness of the contributions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, from the Middle ages through the Renaissance and through the Baroque period. This includes associated modern nations (e.g., Byelorus, Ukraine, etc), and those countries that were once enemies (Grand Duchy of Moscow, Sweden, etc). |

I made the mistake of watching a few History Channel documentaries.
Dear history channel,
It's Theory, supporting facts, (if you're feeling plucky and especially frisky) opposing viewpoints and conclusions. This process is not some MYTHICAL IDEA talked about in whispers and hieroglyphs on the walls of caves (though if I were to watch more of your programs I would not be surprised to stumble across the ancient Greek Theory of Essay Writing, now lost to the vagaries of time) but actually something you learn in like eighth grade. Also note: Most of these steps should actually be connected to the preceding step with more than a THIN THREAD OF HOPE AND DUCTAPE. THERE SHOULD BE A CLEAR LINE OF THOUGHT AND REASONING. REALLY. I'M NOT KIDDING.
Absolutely disgusted, Ami
P.S. You are made of evil. |

This is what happens when I'm AFK for a period of time...and I'm still not done going through them all.
I apologize if I've missed anything particular anyone has posted.
I'm excited. Tomorrow I plan on drugging myself up to brace the allergies, and cleaning up my office finally.
Zot, I'll start on your sheet whenever you want to send the info along for it. I plan on doing a LOT of art this weekend. I seriously want to start the 3-D stuff August 1st. I plan on prepping 2-D stuff that is due after August at home to work on during my breaks at work.
I also plan on making a schedule this weekend for projects so I can finally make the list of projects shrink.
Unless it's currently being planned for completion (ie, spoken or emailed me about a project), I really can't take any 2-D commissions right now. I am taking 3-D commissions for November and January deadlines, or beyond. |

Today I spent most of the working day running around trying to get an ID, which was unsuccessful, since I can't get it till I get medical clearance, which requires a letter from my doctor stating that the surgery I had on my wrist does not require any limitations placed on my work. Apparently I can't work till employee health and safety has the letter, which is news to me since I've been working since last tuesday. The administrator for my fellowship is new and apparently isn't familiar with what clearances are needed for working here. However I did manage to get a TB test, which is one of the other requirements for the medical clearance.
After work I took the bus over to the MIT campus for the meeting of the local SCA group, The Barony of Carolingia. Got the rundown on what's going on locally and got onto a few mailing lists for stuff I'm interested in. Now if I can only get this damn problem with my wrist fixed I can really get back into tailoring and fencing. I am going to try to get to see a rheumatologist and an orthopedist once I get my ID, which I need to get my health insurance, which I need to get an appointment with a primary care physical, which I need to get a referral to a specialist. Did I mention I really hate jumping through these hoops of paperwork? Speaking of hoops to jump through, tomorrow I get to spend the day in new employee orientation sessions, which means being up bright. This begs the question, why are there so many morning people, and who let them be in charge of the scheduling? |

Does anyone off hand know what website the photos with the brown backdrop used to take photos of costumers at Anthrocon will be posted? |
